The open valley setting at Përmet
Seen from Përmet, the Vjosa spans a wide gravel riverbed with open views framed by surrounding mountains. The river flows below City Rock and receives local tributaries, including the Lengarica coming from its canyon near Bënjë.
This open space defines the Përmet section: the riverbank faces the town promenade directly, making the flowing water an everyday visual and cultural presence for residents and visitors.

Seasonal changes of free-flowing waters
Within the Vjosa Wild River National Park, the flow is not regulated by artificial dams. Water levels and travel change with rain, temperature, and season.
In spring (April—June), the Vjosa and Lengarica may be higher, and rain changes access. In summer (July—August), heat and heavier use arrive; visitors are advised to start early and carry safe drinking water. Autumn (September—October) brings a gentler pace as daylight shortens, while from November to March weather, roads, and hours are less predictable.

The river is wild and unsupervised. National-park status does not make it a controlled zone. Before any boat trip or descent, seek current information and confirm conditions with an appropriate operator.
